About the work: The "Nuppeppō" ( the flesh monster ) is a yokai depicted in Edo-period picture scrolls such as Bakemono Emaki and Hyakki Yagyō, appearing as a creature whose face and body are indistinguishable—resembling a single, amorphous mass of flesh. According to legend, it haunts abandoned buildings and old temples. The inscription on the seal reads “诸事无常,” which means “Everything is transient.”
