About the work: Kotodama refers to the Japanese belief that mystical powers dwell in words and names, which also means the soul of language or power of language.
Masato believes that words have a life of their own and can fly to spread. For different people, they can bring redemption or deadly harm. May there be fewer hurtful words in the world and more warm words to save others. Creating the artwork KOTODAMA went very smoothly, almost seamlessly from conception to completion. This is one of Masato Ohata's favorite works.

About the work:
At the beginning of his creation, I originally took bizarre creatures as the subject, intending to present a strange scene of a girl in a spacesuit hunting a human-faced octopus in a futuristic SF world. When the progress was about 80% complete, the octopus still existed, but as the production progressed, my thoughts changed, and I wanted to convey a more story-driven spiritual core. With this idea gradually occupying my mind, the theme eventually became "the moment of panic before encountering the strange," and the octopus had to quietly exit. Ahead, the cave was already littered with corpses, but the girl remained unaware. A chilly wind blew from the cave entrance, seeming to express the pioneer exploration team's reluctance and the eerie whisper from the underworld of life and death.
"Girl and Death" and "Time" have always been classic themes since ancient times, and I hope to interpret them in a more transcendent and modern way through my hands.

About the work: Xing means happiness, and Huo means misfortune. This work expresses the idea that "misfortune is what fortune depends upon, fortune is where misfortune hides." Happiness and misfortune always depend on each other and transform into one another. This concept originates from Laozi's Tao Te Ching.

From the artist:
Inspired by the works of René Magritte, I tried to embed three-dimensional shapes based on a surrealist composition to create this work. This is an exciting attempt. I will use such creative elements again in future works and make new attempts.
